Green Commute Initiative is delighted to be supporting Chasing the Sun as it embarks on its UK screening tour. The film shows riders from all walks of life striving to complete the annual Chase the Sun cycling event.
However, the film is about much more than a cycling challenge; it’s about how the humble bicycle should be embraced to help save the planet. The film aims to normalise cycling and encourage more people into the saddle which in turn will benefit us all.
Green Commute Initiative’s own mission is to get more people cycling by giving easy and fair access to the Cycle to Work Scheme. The savings available through the scheme are a big incentive, making cycling a more viable option for a wider audience. Green Commute Initiative is delighted to support the film by sponsoring the screenings and thereby helping give the show the attention it fully deserves.

Fettle are sponsoring our screenings in Bristol, Cambridge and Edinburgh.

We're delighted to be teaming up with Picturehouse, Scott Cinemas and numerous independent venues to bring Chasing The Sun to a cinema near you in coming months.
It's also great to part of the Picturehouse Green Screen programme. Green Screen is a community-led space to discuss environmental issues raised in the films we show. Everyone is welcome to continue the conversation after the film in your cinema's meeting space – enjoy a free tea or filter coffee when you bring a keep cup!
"At times it might seem we’re all battling uphill, whether through the Mendips with just a few kilometres to go, or politically, against more powerful, belligerent forces. But the overarching message from the voices in Chasing The Sun is as heartening as it is clear: Keep going.
And it’s a brilliant journey to watch."
‘'Inspiring and joyful, a love letter to the humble bicycle and all who ride one.”
James Spender, Cyclist Magazine
Chasing The Sun is the new film from 2x BAFTA-winning director Michael B.Clifford.
In 1973 a professor in a little known American university set out to discover the most energy efficient creature on earth: turns out, it’s a human being on a bicycle! The experiment has since entered into legend and is now more relevant than ever before. We explore extraordinary personal stories of ordinary cyclists chasing the sun, revealing the power of the humble bicycle to transform lives and help save the planet.
The film features contributions from broadcaster and ITV’s voice of the Tour de France Ned Boulting, author and blogger Jools Walker, Turner Prize-winning artist Sir Richard Long and 4x Mountain Bike World Champion Tracy Moseley.
With the support of our friends at Trek Bikes and Bosch eBike Systems, a hefty chunk of filming for Chasing The Sun has been done using e-bikes and cargo bikes, enabling us to get closer to the cycling action and to manage our carbon footprint.
We're delighted to be featured as a BFI Sustainable Screen case study by Albert, which supports the global Film and TV industry to reduce the environmental impacts of production and to create content that supports a vision for a sustainable future.
Chasing The Sun had its World Premiere at the prestigious Kendal Mountain Festival on 17th November 2023 in Kendal, Cumbria.
Playing to a packed theatre, audience reaction to the film was incredible.
Ultra-cyclist and author Emily Chappell also hosted a fascinating Q&A with director Michael B.Clifford, broadcaster Ned Boulting and academic and cycling campaigner Dr Emma Street.
